KarmibhyaH, ch, adhikH, yogi, tasmaat’, yogi, bhav, Arjun ||46||
Translation: God is saying that (yogi) after gaining knowledge from a Tatvdarshi Saint, a devotee who does sadhna of naam; given by me (matH) conjectural opinion on sadhna i.e. according to the knowledge of the way of worship, the Hathyog which is mentioned in Shlok 10 to 15, in that those who do sadhna by forceful act of bhakti (tapasvibhyaH) to ascetics (gyaanibhyaH) the learneds mentioned in Gita Adhyay 7 Shlok 16-17 (ch) and (karmibhyaH) to those who perform action i.e. who do sadhna opposite to the scriptures (api) also (adhikH) is superior. (tasmaat’) therefore (Arjun) oh Arjun, after finding the Tatvdarshi saint mentioned in Gita Adhyay 4 Shlok 34 and taking spiritual instruction from him (yogi) a scripture-based devotee (bhav) become. (46)
God is saying that after gaining knowledge from a Tatvdarshi Saint, a devotee who does sadhna of naam is superior to those ascetics who do sadhna by forceful act of bhakti i.e. by Hathyog mentioned in Shlok 10 to 15 according to the knowledge of the way of worship i.e. conjectural opinion on sadhna given by me, and to the learneds mentioned in Gita Adhyay 7 Shlok 16-17 and to those who perform action i.e. who do sadhna opposite to the scriptures. Therefore oh Arjun, after finding the Tatvdarshi saint stated in Gita Adhyay 4 Shlok 34, and taking spiritual instruction from him, become a scripture-based devotee.
तपस्विभ्यः, अधिकः, योगी, ज्ञानिभ्यः, अपि, मतः, अधिकः,
कर्मिभ्यः, च, अधिकः, योगी, तस्मात्, योगी, भव, अर्जुन।।46।।
अनुवाद: भगवान कह रहा है कि (योगी) तत्वदर्शी संत से ज्ञान प्राप्त करके साधना करने वाला नाम साधक मेरे द्वारा दिया (मतः) अटकल लगाया साधना का मत अर्थात् पूजा विधि के ज्ञान अनुसार जो श्लोक 10 से 15 तक में हठ योग का विवरण दिया है उनमें जो हठ करके भक्ति कर्म से जो साधना करते हैं उन (तपस्विभ्यः) तपस्वियों से (ज्ञानिभ्यः) गीता अध्याय 7 श्लोक 16-17 में वर्णित ज्ञानियों से (च) तथा (कर्मिभ्य) कर्म करने वाले से अर्थात् शास्त्राविरूद्ध साधना करने वालों से (अपि) भी (अधिकः) श्रेष्ठ है। (तस्मात्) इसलिए (अर्जुन) हे अर्जुन गीता अध्याय 4 श्लोक 34 में कहे तत्वदर्शी संत की खोज करके उस से उपदेश प्राप्त करके (योगी) शास्त्रा अनुकूल भक्त (भव) हो। गीता अध्याय 2 श्लोक 39 से 53 तक में कहा है कि हे अर्जुन! जिस समय तेरा मन भाँति-भाँति के ज्ञान वचनों से हट कर एक तत्वज्ञान पर स्थित हो जाएगा तब तो तू योग को प्राप्त होगा अर्थात् योगी बनेगा। (46)
