Kriyate, tat’, ih, proktam’, raajsam’, chalam’, adhruvam’ ||18||
Translation: (Yat’) which (tapH) austerity (satkaarmaanpoojaarthm’) for veneration in form of respect, honour (ev) only (ch) and (dambhen) with hypocrisy (kriyate) is practised (tat’) that (adhruvam’) transient (chalam’) destructible austerity (ih) here (raajsam’) Rajas (proktam’) is called. (18)
Translation
The austerity, which is practised only for veneration in form of respect and honour, and with hypocrisy, that transient destructible austerity is called Rajas here.
सत्कारमानपूजार्थम्, तपः, दम्भेन, च, एव, यत्,
क्रियते, तत्, इह, प्रोक्तम्, राजसम्, चलम्, अध्रुवम्।।18।।
अनुवाद: (यत्) जो (तपः) तप (सत्कारमानपूजार्थम्) सत्कार मान रूपी पूजाके लिये (एव) ही (च) और (दम्भेन) पाखण्डसे (क्रियते) किया जाता है (तत्) वह (अध्रुवम्) अस्थाई (चलम्) नाशवान तप (इह) यहाँ (राजसम्)राजस (प्रोक्तम्)कहा गया है। (18)
केवल हिन्दी अनुवाद: जो तप सत्कार मान रूपी पूजाके लिये ही और पाखण्ड से किया जाता है वह अस्थाई नाशवान तप यहाँ राजस कहा गया है। (18)
